Child's Play is the 34th episode of Sailor Moon R. It was preceded by Smart Payoff and followed by Future Shocked.

It all happens with Rini sick one day. Luna and Artemis explain that there will be a new friend arriving. Serena, Amy, Raye, Mina, and Lita arrive with Melissa and Rini is happy to see her.

Meanwhile, Emerald sends two droids, Doom and his younger brother Gloom, to fill two separate spots with dark energy. Doom's target is Rini's school. Rini is late for school, and when she gets there, it is in complete chaos, as everyone there has turned evil, including her friend Melissa.

Sailor Mars and Sailor Venus fight Gloom, and are unable to defeat him. He leaves as Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter arrive. Sailor Moon finds Rini, Luna, and Artemis, but Doom and Gloom attack them. Melissa attacks Rini, but the crescent moon on her forehead activates and breaks the spell on Melissa. Doom and Gloom attack Rini, and Melissa takes the hit to protect her, similar to what Rini's mother did for her in the future.

Furious over Melissa being hurt, Rini uses her power to send Doom and Gloom flying out the window. Wiseman senses this and decides that he wants to turn Rini to his side. Doom and Gloom are attacked by Tuxedo Mask, and try to escape into the ground, but Sailor Jupiter forces them back out with Jupiter Thunderclap Zap, and Sailor Moon destroys them with Moon Scepter Elimination.

Both Dark Wedges are destroyed with them and the spell is broken. Emerald tries to attack them with dark energy balls in retaliation for ruining her plans so many times, but Prince Diamond tells her to stop, as he has changed his plan, and calls her back to the future.

Melissa survives Doom and Gloom's attack, and Rini decides to go to the future to save her mother, and the girls, along with Darien, agree to come with her.

  • First and last appearance of Doom and Gloom.
  • This marks the end of Emerald's evil plans.
  • This episode gives us a look at one of Emerald's attacks, though she never succeeds in using it. She has the ability to throw balls of dark energy at her opponents, and attempts to do this to the Sailor Scouts, but is stopped by Diamond.

  • This episode shares its name with a horror movie, and an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh.
