O-fuda (御札 or お札,o-fuda?, a charm) is a type of household amulet or talisman, issued or sold by a Shinto shrine, hung in the house for protection, a gofu (護符,gofu?).
In Sailor Moon, Raye Hino uses Ofuda's as a weapon against enemies from the Negaverse and onward, as herself or as Sailor Mars. Ofuda's that she used are typically sold at the Cherry Hill temple where she works.
Ofuda's may also be called shinpu (神符,shinpu?). It is made by inscribing the name of a kami and the name of the Shinto shrine or of a representative of the kami on a strip of paper, wood, cloth, or metal.
The Kanji written on the Ofuda means 悪霊退散 (Akuryo Taisan,悪霊退散?) or "Evil Spirit, Disperse". In the re-released English translation of the manga, it is translated as "Evil Spirit, be exorcised".
