"There's no use in crying over misspelled silk."

Star Struck, Bad Luck is the first episode of Sailor Moon S. It was preceded by Follow the Leader and followed by Crystal Clear Again.

Raye has a vision of the world being destroyed by darkness. The girls all study for a final exam.

In an evil lab, Doctor Tomoe, a mad scientist (who resembles Melvin, and whose face is hidden in darkness) is creating Daimon pods. He is searching for three crystals hidden within three specific Pure Hearts (though he does not know which three people possess these Pure Hearts) in order to combine them and rule the world. He sends his assistant Kaorinite to take the Daimon pod and extract someone's Pure Heart.

Serena gets a horrible mark on her exam. Raye says that her dream is to become a singer, a dancer, and get married. The Daimon pod implants itself in a tree near Raye's temple. Raye is Kaorinite's first target, and the tree (that Kaorinite implanted the Daimon pod in) transforms into a Daimon Heart Snatcher named Mikusi. As Mikusi is in the process of extracting Raye's Pure Heart, Serena transforms into Sailor Moon. Mikusi attacks her until Tuxedo Mask shows up. Sailor Moon uses Moon Scepter Elimination, but Mikusi counters it and takes Sailor Moon's locket, de-transforming her. She traps Tuxedo Mask and extracts Raye's Pure Heart, which resembles a crystal.

Suddenly, two energy waves (one orange and one blue, resembling water) hit Mikusi and destroy her, splitting her into the tree and her Daimon pod, which breaks, indicating that she is dead. Her attackers are the same shadowy figures that resemble Sailor Scouts, that Serena saw before, and they say that Raye's Pure Heart is not one of the three crystals, just a pure heart with the power of love, so they return it to Raye.

The Sailor Scouts recognize that they have another new enemy.

  • First true appearance of Doctor Tomoe and Kaorinite.
  • First and last appearance of Daimon Mikusi.
  • The attacks that destroyed Mikusi are, in a later episode, revealed to be World Shaking and Deep Submerge.
  • Much of the voicing is changed, due to Terri Hawkes giving birth, Stephanie Morgenstern and Toby Proctor filming other movies, and Karen Bernstein getting married.
  • This is the last time "Moon Crystal Power" or "Moon Scepter/Princess Elimination" is used (successfully in the transformation's case).
